Back to Ayacucho for four months.

We arrived back early Monday morning via Cruz del Sur bus lines, travelling for eleven hours from Lima! At least we purchased ‘bus cama’ seats; they recline back to a virtual horizontal position and together with a company blanket and pillow you get some reasonable rest. I found the only real problem was the constant swinging to the left and right as the driver negotiated the Andean corners!

Senora was waiting for us at Hotel Tres Mascaras to show us to one of the biggest rooms available. Lucas, the little dog, also seemed glad to welcome back his gringo mate!
We have all we need apart from possibly another small table and slightly softer beds. At least we had the sense to purchase a couple of soft, down pillows while in Lima.
We have a choice of a continental breakfast – juice, bread, butter, jam and coffee – or a coffee and something to eat elsewhere.

Our en suite has everything in working order and the shower has both hot and cold running water. What else do we need?

A very quaint sun room acts as another area for us to sit, have coffee and prepare lessons, or just relax.
The only major difficulty at this point in time is that it is the rainy season or possibly better described as the pouring rainy season! If you are caught out all the gutters and roads act as rivers so you have some real fun trying to get home dry. This is especially so as the traffic is thundering up and down the roads spraying all and sundry!

Another problem is that the construction of five major road drains has ground to a halt due to a lack of money! You get a reasonable idea of the topography of Ayacucho when you look at the gradient of the roads. Nevertheless, all will be completed in time.
