I have been following the Australian weather maps with great interest and feel extremely sorry for all those families affected by the floods, either by loss of life or loss of property. A serious tragedy to say the least.
Nevertheless, the extraordinary thing is that we have also been having massive downpours in the afternoons and evenings. In fact last Tuesday it began to pour down in the afternoon and stayed that way for most of the night. The locals simply put it down to normal for this time of the year.
Our street corner just outside the Hotel Tres Mascaras front door was almost coping with traffic prior to Tuesday - with a little help of some ingenious draining!
However, after the deluge the construction works suffered from serious cave-ins. In fact our usual path home from the clinic had to be propped up in order to make it safer to walk on!
After many hours of shovelling soil, carrying small boulders and stacking sand bags the traffic is flowing ‘safely’ again!
