The English class becomes an Art class.

Even before you read this blog just take a look at what was achieved by this group of nurses, their use of colour and shape was amazing and they loved every minute of the evening. It would not surprise us if we are called on to set up another lesson.
They simply loved the challenge once they got over the shock that you could paint outside the lines and even mix colours! The entire evening was set up so that we could combine the use of English and painting, and it seemed to work very well.

First, they had to begin with a colour mixing exercise using the three primary colours to gain the three secondary and even various shades of secondaries without the assistance of white. They also were shown the difference between ‘oscuro y claro’, dark and light within colours.

Then it was onto the real thing, a new sheet of paper, fresh water and clean brushes before choosing a picture to copy from the power point presentation.
We were literally blown away with their efforts, especially when you realise that most had not touched a paint brush since their primary school days!

There was no time to stop so it was supper ‘on the run’ for Edith and Christina.

Just look at the concentration on the faces of Gloria and Ruth as they work on their masterpieces.

Admiring their work at the end of the class.
The only negative for the evening was the fact that the rain had set in, well and truly. Previously I had boasted that we had always missed being caught in the rain, well not this time. Not even the cheap plastic ponchos saved us. And I can assure you the passing traffic took care of my shoes, socks and jeans below the hem of the poncho!

Finally, I have to show you the efforts of Elmer’s group on Thursday. Just take a look at them as they proudly display their first attempt at a ‘still life’.
