An unbelievable technicolour Sunday.

As we neared the Plaza de Armas this morning on our way to Mass we sensed that something special was going to happen later in the morning.

So Marion did some investigative work beforehand.

Even one young lad brought his pet llama, Maria, along for the festival, dressed for the occasion.

One particular group even arrived by one of the side roads leading into the Plaza.

In our wildest of dreams we did not expect the parade that occurred; every conceivable colour was on display in the costumes worn by many hundreds of people who had arrived from all the towns in the surrounding districts to celebrate Carnaval.

The Plaza was packed with people, colour, music and dance. Apparently it was all part of an annual festival of music and dance, beginning in the Plaza and then heading for a local sports ground to continue for the rest of the day, and possibly night!

One of the most notable things that we observed was the extremely high percentage of young people taking part. Maintaining the local music, dance, story and traditions is very important in their lives.

However, as usual everything has to begin with the march past and general salute acknowledging the dignitaries present.

The colourful costumes just kept coming – and coming.
I had to also include some other wonderful moments which I managed to catch on camera.

This little boy was not going to miss out on the occasion and his mother had him dressed beautifully.

I do not quite know the significance of the deer’s head being worn by this particular gentleman!

This man was going to make sure that there were no plastic bottles lying around at the end of the day.
Believe me these are but a few of the photos that I took this morning! You just kept marvelling at what was going on all around you.
Remember, if you left click on any photo you will get and enlargement of that particular shot.
